We were thrilled here at Whatever Comics When Accent UK creators Dave West and Andy Bloor first suggested that the launch of the new Wolfmen book should be held at our shop, and even more thrilled when it actually happened.
On the day it was touch and go that Artist Andy would make it due to a flu type bug which was doing the rounds fortunately for us it turned out not to be full blown Man Flu and Andy managed to shrug it off :)
Dave and Andy arrived in Canterbury quite early in the day which was really good as time soon gets eaten up with mundane like getting them parked, lugging the boxes of comics to the shop and taking them to the accommodation where they were to stay afterwards. With this done both Dave and Andy wet off to sample some of Canterbury’s culinary delights leaving time to spare for the 1pm start.
The first thing that struck me about Dave and Andy is that both myself and Debs felt right at home in their company and it didn’t take long to find ourselves laughing and joking about like we had known them for ages.
We didn’t realize at the time but this was there first ever shop signing, we treated them like seasoned professionals not realizing that perhaps the may need a little help, no help was needed as both creators just slipped into their roles like… well like professionals.
We had a couple of surprises for them in the shape of a couple of Wolfmen played by our good friend Karol Steele and Carl Brady that was bloody good fun and helped elevate the atmosphere to a party level, everyone who came left with a smile on there face which is always good.
A few frantic hours followed where both Dave and Andy signed books for customers and Andy sketched away trying and keep up with demand, a fair few books were sold and a fair few book which had been purchased in the past were produced for signatures. Great fun.
And as all good thing it came to and end, the store closed and we prepared ourselves to pop out and eat, but not before I got Dave and Andy to sign a few extra copies for customers who couldn’t make it on the day.
Time for a Curry, down to the Indian we went where it has to be said the food was really very good, we drank ate and chatted, it was a fine ending to a fine day, and what a great day it was.
The Fall of the Wolfmen launch was a huge success, a big thank you to both Dave West and Andy Bloor who travelled many miles to treat us to this awesome event, and a special thanks to Andy who was after all feeling a bit poorly, but he soldiered on regardless sketching and signing anything that was put in front of him while Dave interacted with the Fans.
Thank you so very guys you were fantastic.
An extra special thanks goes to friends Karol and Carl who were our Wolfmen for the day, you really performed above and beyond the call of duty especially Karol whose tireless efforts really made the day.
Also a huge thanks you to all of you who made the effort to come along some of you I know came many miles to be with us Jonathan, Nigel, and Tim, immediately spring to mind, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
And last but not least my Wife and Partner Debe whose hard work and tireless support though thick and thin makes my life complete, thanks love it wouldn’t be as good without you.
