Greatest Hits #1 David Tishman Glen Fabry
The blurb goes something like this...GREATEST HITS looks at The Mates, from their humble 1960s beginnings, through the drug-fueled 1970s, and into the techno '80s, the grungy '90s, and to the present day. This is The Mates from the height of their glory to the depths of excess, as filmed by a struggling Hollywood director – one with his own dark ties to the team. Your favorite well mannered boy has this to say about it
4 - 3- 2 - BIP….
Reporting for the British Comic Corporation, LIVE! from the United States of Wherever, Where the MATES, The worlds Greatest Costumed Heroes battle side by side with Law enforcement officers to bring a status quo to a caldron of racial tension known as a “White Riot, White Riot, White Riot, want a riot of my own” … Sorry, got side tracked, lets begin with, At last a DC Comic that i WANT to read, be it a Vertigo or not.
And within the first few pages we are introduced to the Mates which consist of
Crusader, Invulnerable and the Moral Compass of the team.
Vizier, a Celtic priest who has turned to the Magic of the Druids.
The Solicitor, a hero of an unfailing sense of right and wrong who doles out justic with his fists.
Zipper, a young happy go lucky speedster who can move at near subsonic levels.
Three out of four is not bad, and there are more original ideas in the first four pages of this book than there are in the first four issue of Kick Ass.
Yes there is a bit of bad language here and there, and the occasional adult theme which could be considered distasteful but then this is a Vertigo title.
And you know what, I can forgive that because its highly entertaining and Kicks Ass !
In a was Kick Ass could only dream of.
Imagine Top Ten, Astro City, and The Twelve, add a bit of Earl Grey.
Put it into a blender, throw in a bit of jolly good cricket, and fisticuffs, and you may just be getting warm.
This is top notch, entertainment, Sun readers need not apply
10/10 old bean !
